Sheet Metal Processing
What is Sheet Metal Processing?
Sheet metal processing is a core technology in the field of precision metal fabrication. It involves a series of operations—such as cutting, forming, and surface treatment—that transform raw metal sheets into components or structural parts required for various end products. This process is widely applied across manufacturing industries including medical equipment, computer electronics, and home appliances, and is an essential link in the production of nearly all products containing metal parts.
Its core workflow consists of three main stages:
  • Cutting
Multiple precision cutting methods are used to separate metal sheets. Common techniques include shearing (cutting by shear stress), electrical discharge machining (EDM) for conductive materials, abrasive cutting with grinding wheels or saw blades, and high-precision laser cutting.
  • Forming
This stage shapes cut sheets into their final forms. Key processes include roll bending (using rollers to form curves), press bending, stamping (with molds to create textures or patterns), punching (creating holes), and welding (joining metal parts through high-temperature fusion).
  • Surface Treatment
As the final stage, surface treatment enhances part performance and appearance. This mainly includes deburring and polishing through grinding, along with thorough cleaning to ensure the finished product is free of impurities and ready for immediate assembly.
